Repair Disk Errors

One simple way you can improve the speed of your PC is to scan your hard drive for errors such as bad sectors. These errors will slow down your hard disk performance and make your computer run slower.

To run a scan and repair any problematic sectors in your hard drive just follow these points;

  • You must close down any files
  • Click start
  • Click computer
  • Right click on the hard disk you want to scan and select properties
  • Click the tools tab
  • Click check now
  • In the check disk box select scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors
  • Click start

Scientific Calculator

To most people the calculator you get in Windows is just that – a plain old calculator.

But what you also get with the calculator is the ability to turn it into a full scientific calculator, I personally never use it but I have heard of some people who use it all the time.

To activate the scientific calculator to do the following;

  • Open your calculator (start > all programs > accessories > calculator)
  • Click view
  • Click scientific
  • You also have some other options here when you activate the scientific calc

I have received a few emails from frustrated uses that are having trouble installing fonts on their Windows XP computers, well I can say font installation is quite simple and should take only a minute or two.

Just follow these points to install a font on Windows XP;

  • Download your new font (usually in a true type or open type format)
  • Now open your fonts section from your control panel
  • Select install new font from your file menu
  • Find the font you have installed in the add fonts box
  • Click OK, done

Stop IE7 Storing Names and Passwords

For security reasons (especially if you are using a shared PC) you may want stop Internet Explorer 7 from saving all passwords and user names.  This will prevent other people from possibly getting access to anything you need a password for (banks, social sites etc).

To stop IE7 from saving any user names and passwords do the following;

  • Open IE7
  • Click tools and select internet options
  • Click the content tab
  • Click the setting buttons next to autocomplete
  • Uncheck prompt me to save passwords
  • Click OK
  • Done
